The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has tasked information officers attached to local Government areas to broaden their scope of reportage by highlighting community challenges that require the state government’s prompt intervention.

In a statement signed by the Director, Special Duties Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs Sani Abba Yola made available to newsmen.

The statement pointed out that the commissioner made the indication during his maiden meeting with local government information officers, emphasizing that proactive efforts of this nature would contribute to improving residents’ living standards beyond activities within local government secretariats.

He also highlighted the importance of embracing digital literacy to disseminate information effectively through social media, alongside conventional media platforms.

“We are committed to ensuring continuous training and retraining for our information officers to enhance their capacity for effective service delivery,” Waiya stated. He added that the ministry would provide necessary working materials to support professional operations.

The Commissioner reiterated the ministry’s commitment to improving communication channels and strengthening grassroots governance through effective information management in the state.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Adamu Bala Muhammad, described the Commissioner as a media-friendly leader dedicated to fostering a conducive working environment for information officers.

In his remarks, the Director of Public Enlightenment, Idris Zakariya’u, appealed to the Commissioner to address the challenge of staff shortages among information officers assigned to local government areas, emphasizing the need for increased workforce support.
