The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting soil degradation, erosion, and other environmental challenges.
This was disclosed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the flag-off ceremony of a massive tree planting program, where 5.5 million seedlings will be planted across the state, held at Makoda Local Government Area.

He said the primary aim of this program is to address the numerous environmental challenges affecting communities in Kano State.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that these challenges have been causing significant problems for the people.
The governor assured that the state government has provided all necessary support to nurse the seedlings, ensuring they grow and serve their intended purpose. This support is crucial for the success of the program.

He urged all 44 local government chairmen, traditional leaders, and Community Development Officers (CDOs) to key into this program,saying their participation is vital to achieving the program’s stated goals.
“If well maintained, the trees planted through this initiative will play a significant role in addressing climate change and related issues. This aligns with Kano State’s broader environmental objectives.”
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Dahiru Mohammad Hashim, applauded Governor Yusuf’s commitment to supporting the ministry’s efforts to curtail environmental challenges.
Representing the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammad Sanusi II, Sarkin Dawakin Mai Tuta Alhaji Mohammad Bello Abubakar reiterated the Emirate Council’s support for the tree planting program.
“This support is crucial for ensuring the program’s objectives are met.”
The event featured the presentation of awards to personalities who have made outstanding contributions to supporting their communities.
