As the harmattan season intensifies in Kano, vendors selling hot tea, noodles, akara (bean cake), pap (koko), and locust bean cake (awara) are experiencing a surge in their businesses.

A visit to various parts of the city by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that many residents are turning to these hot foods and drinks to combat the chilly weather.

Vendors reported a significant increase in patronage, with some saying that demand had doubled in the past fortnight.

Ali Musa, a tea seller, said that commercial tricycle operators, students, and laborers are among his regular customers, who start arriving as early as 7:00 a.m. to keep themselves warm.

Sani Yusuf, another tea vendor, expressed satisfaction with the increase in his business, saying that he is seeing significant profits.

Mudi Saleh, who sells tea and noodles, had to bring in his brother from the village to help serve the growing number of customers.

The prices of these hot foods and drinks vary, with a cup of tea costing between N150 and N300, and a plate of noodles priced between N450 and N600.

Customers also confirmed the increase in their patronage, saying that it’s necessary to visit these vendors more frequently to stay warm during the harmattan season.

The boom in these businesses is a welcome relief for the vendors, who are seeing significant profits during this period.
