    Improved Collaboration : Key to Effective WASH Service Delivery -UNICEF

    Stakeholders in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa converged to review the institutional Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) systems in the states.

    The meeting, supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), aimed to assess progress, identify challenges, and develop strategies for improved collaboration and coordination among stakeholders.

    The outcome of the meeting is expected to inform the development of strategies for strengthening institutional WASH systems, ultimately benefiting communities in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.

    In her remarks, WASH officer UNICEF Field office Kano, Stella Okafor explained that, the primary objective of the meeting was to evaluate the effectiveness of institutional WASH systems, identify areas of improvement, and develop strategies for enhanced collaboration and coordination among stakeholders.

    She pointed out that ,UNICEF has supported the governments of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa over the years on institutional WASH.

    Stella stressed on the need to address duplication of efforts and resources, ensuring that interventions are targeted and effective.

    “In Kano, Katsina and Jigawa what the Ministry of Education and SUBEB is doing and what state health care is doing comforms with what RUWASSA is also doing”

    “In a school where we have an existing WASH facility, you can still go there and see a new one, meaning they have two, but there are schools that doesn’t have at all”

    She said stakeholders at the meeting reviewed the system to see how far they have gone, to determine if the states actually complied with all the agreed actions.

    During the meeting, WASH stakeholders reported significant progress in reforming institutional WASH systems, with notable improvements in synergy and partnership between government agencies and development partners.

    Representatives from the three states, the permanent secretary Kano state ministry of water resources Engineer Abdulrazaq Haruna, the permanent Secretary Katsina State Ministry of Water Resources Inuwa, Aminu Tukur, and director planning Ministry of Water Resources Jigawa state Kabiru Mohammed, shared their experiences and best practices in WASH service delivery.

    The stakeholders reported progress in reforming institutional WASH systems, with improved synergy and partnership between government agencies and development partners.

    They reiterated their commitment to strengthening institutional WASH systems, ensuring that services are delivered efficiently and effectively.

    The Expert Systems Strengthening of WASH in institutions Dr. Ishaku Ziyok enunerated some key findings from the three states.

    He posited that, here are some synergies that are beginning to appear in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, such as partnership between RUWASSA SUBEB among others.

    The event tagged institutional WASH strengthening review was organized by the Kano State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency RUWASSA Supported by UNICEF.

    The meeting marked a significant step towards improved collaboration and coordination among stakeholders.
