The Kano Network of NGOs (KANET) has emphasized the importance of budget tracking and implementation among Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
This call to action was made during KANET’s monthly lecture series, where Malam Akibu Hamisu highlighted the crucial role of budgeting in the state’s development.
According to Akibu, the Kano state government is making efforts to increase transparency and citizen involvement in the budgeting process, particularly in social, administrative, and economic areas.
He stressed that CSO inclusion in the budget is vital for identifying neglected issues, amplifying marginalized voices, and promoting accountability.
Akibu also noted that between 2022 and 2024, millions of naira in the Kano state government went unaccounted for.
“Despite this, CSOs have shown limited commitment to addressing these issues”
KANET Chairman Musa Abdullahi Sufi applauded Akibu’s presentation, emphasizing the need for CSOs to take a more active role in budget tracking and implementation.
