The Commissioner Kano state Ministry of Women, Children, and the Disabled, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji Rano, has urged husbands of VVF (vesicovaginal fistula) survivors to support and stand by their wives, regardless of the extent of urinary tract damage they are dealing with.

The appeal was made during the distribution of support packages and items to 50 VVF survivors, at the VVF Hostel in Kwalli Kano Municipal.

Hajiya Saji emphasized the importance of men standing by their wives during this challenging time of VVF, for which they shun and reject their wives, thereby compounding their problem.

“Remember, every VVF victim was taken to her husband’s house as a healthy bride, full of hopes and dreams. What she later becomes is mostly the direct result of prolonged labor, following attempt to give birth to your own child”,

She also referred to governor Yusuf’s prompt response to health matters and other psycho-social services, citing instances where the Governor ordered for quick interventions to save situations.

The commissioner congratulated the VVF survivors and urged them to make judicious use of empowerment package and items presented to them, as they continue to see and accept their predicament in good faith.

Speaking earlier, the Founder of Laure Fistula Foundation Baba Musa, expressed happiness over the memorable event which he said was the 50th of it’s kind since it was started several years ago.

Baba Musa who disclosed that the state’s VVF repairers are rated the best by the International community, however appealed for quick government’s involvement in funding for VVF repair and timely re-engagement of specialists after retirement.

“ so as to forestall a situation where victims from the state will have to travel to other states for repairs, risking the socio-religious dangers in doing that”

He also commended Governor Yusuf for his constant support and cooperation towards the foundation over the years, particularly recalling how his complaints of lack of enough beds, beddings and other logistics were instantly solved through the Commissioner, Hajiya Saji.

The Officer-in-charge of VVF center, Kwalli, Hajiya Aisha, appreciated efforts by the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf to feed inmates of the center.

“Repair, training and subsequent empowerment will not add up to this success story today, if the government did not play the crucial aspect of feeding the inmates”,

In a vote of thanks, the Director, Social Welfare of the Ministry of Women, Children and the Disabled, Hajiya Binta Muhammad Yakasai, expressed happiness that the Commissioner was at event in person to witness the level of appreciation by everyone present.

Some of beneficiaries who spoke at the occasion, thanked and prayed for Governor Yusuf, the Commissioner and Baba Musa for sharing in their pains and making tireless efforts to make them outlive their painful past.

A total of 50 VVF survivors were empowered during the event, while items disbursed included sewing machines, grinding engines, pop corn making machines, provisions and cash.
