The Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) has announced that it will no longer demolish buildings constructed In unauthorized areas.
Instead, developers who break the law will be sent straight to jail without the option of a fine.

According to Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, Managing Director of KNUPDA, the authority will invoke sections 11, 12, 13, and 14 of the law to prosecute offenders.
“Those found guilty will face a one-year or six-month jail term, along with a fine, under section 15 of the KNUPDA law”
This move is likely a response to the recent drop in Kano’s real estate business, which was triggered by the government’s demolition of allegedly illegally acquired or irregularly sited properties.
