As part of efforts to curb maternal and neonatal mortality in Kano state, the Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board HMB Dr. Mansur Nagoda, on Saturday, inaugurated the Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Committee.
Dr. Nagoda explained that the Board, supported by the State Ministry of Health under the leadership of the Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf is working round the clock to curtail maternal and neonatal death, which he describes as a critical public health goal that requires a multifaceted approach.

The Executive Secretary further stressed that, among the strategies put in place, the Board is making adequate provisions to ensure that all pregnant women have access to regular prenatal check-ups to monitor the health of both mother and baby,
The Hospital Management Board will also promote the presence of skilled healthcare professionals during childbirth to manage complications effectively.
Other measures are creating awareness among women, especially in the rural areas, about maternal and neonatal health, including the importance of prenatal care, and involving community leaders and organizations to spread awareness and encourage healthy practices.

“We are committed to strengthening the health systems by investing in training healthcare providers to improve their skills in maternal and neonatal care,” Dr. Nagoda observed.
“Curbing maternal and neonatal mortality requires a comprehensive approach that addresses healthcare access, education, nutrition, and social determinants of health. By implementing these strategies, we can make significant progress in improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes in Kano State.”
Meanwhile, the members of the newly-inaugurated committee were drawn from different agencies and facilities, including HMB, KNSPHCMB, KADMCSA, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, and Khalifa Sheikh Isyaka Rabiu Paediatrics Hospital.
