The Kano State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has organised a two-day budget sensitisation workshop on the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for 2026–2028, aimed at strengthening governance and improving budgetary processes across the state’s 44 local government councils.
The workshop, brought together local government chairmen, planning heads, and other officials to enhance their capacity in effective budget formulation, implementation, and monitoring.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, said the sensitisation was crucial to ensuring realistic, people-centred budgets that align with state development priorities.
“This new MTEF template will help shape budgets that address community needs, reduce waste, and deliver better results. Effective planning and responsive budgeting are key to transforming local government administration,”
He also encouraged active participation and knowledge-sharing among participants.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Fatima Adamu Barde, in her remarks, underscored the importance of budgeting in governance.
She noted that the budget is a “plan of action” that guides government operations worldwide, stressing the need for participants to take full advantage of the training.
Speaking on behalf of the 44 council chairmen, Hon. Mahmoud Tajo Gaya, Deputy ALGON Chairman (Kano South) and Chairman of Gaya Local Government, lauded the initiative as timely.
He said the workshop would directly inform the preparation of their 2026 appropriation bills, while reaffirming local government leaders’ commitment to delivering meaningful development in their communities.
The initiative reflects the Kano State Government’s broader commitment under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to promote inclusive governance, transparency, and accountability through improved planning and fiscal discipline.
