The Joint Clusters of Kano State Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) unde the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) have issued a statement distancing themselves from a recent protest and press conference organized by some individuals claiming to represent PWDs.
Establishment of Disability Commission Tops Agenda for Kano PWDs
The groups stated that they were not aware of the protest, nor were they involved in it.
Instead, they have been working closely with the Kano State Government, which has provided significant support to PWDs in the state.
The group pointed out that, the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has implemented various initiatives to support PWDs, including:
Kano Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting PWDs
Institutionalizing PWDs affairs under the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled
Providing direct support, including assistive devices, medical consumables, and palliatives
Supporting special day events, such as World Disability Day and International Day for Spinal Cord Injury
CITAD MacArthur Unveils Digital Training Hub for PWDs in Kano
Empowering and including PWDs in the state’s development agenda, including free education and distribution of tricycles, diapers, and wheelchairs
The Joint Clusters and JONAPWD commended the Kano State Government’s efforts in supporting PWDs and urged all members to distance themselves from protests and recognize the positive impact of the government’s initiatives.
The groups also reiterated their support for the idea of a disability commission but emphasized that the Kano State Government is already making significant strides in supporting PWDs
