Relevant stakeholders in Kano state converged to review and update the initial draft Action Plan for the state’s climate change policy.
The review session, organized by the Kano State Ministry of Environment & Climate Change in collaboration with the Partnership for Agile Governance & Climate Engagement (PACE).
MoECC, PACE Organizes Sessions to Finalize Climate Change Plan
The policy, approved on January 29, 2025, aims to address the impacts of climate change in Kano.
Eight technical working groups, focusing on health, education, environment, energy, and other sectors, were established to develop a comprehensive Implementation Plan.
Speaking during the session, the Kano state commissioner of environment and climate change Dr. Hashim Dahiru exoplained that the outcome of the review will fine tune the implementation plan.

Represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry Alhaji Abdulhamid Bala, the commssioner explained that the draft will be presented to the governor for approval.
He reiterated the state governments commitment in mapping out policies and programs aimed at curtailing the impact of climate change.
The executive secretary Kano state watershed Erosion and climate change management agency KN-WECCMA who doubles as the chairman technical working group, Dr. Muhammad S. Khalid highlighted that, Kano is among the few states that came up with a climate change policy as recommended by the United nations.
He noted that, climate change has affected all aspects of life, hence the need for all relevant stakeholders to contribute their quota to achieve the desired objectives.

The team lead, Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement Malam Auwalu Hamza noted that FCDO PACE is designed to support more accountable and inclusive institutions to respond to Nigeria’s governance and climate change challenges.
He urged participants to collaborate to address critical data gaps, establish clear expectations and define responsibilities for the successful implementation of the plan.
The session was attended by representatives from Propcom+,UNICEF,PLANE,Lafiya, AMGF,OGP,media among others.
