The Kebbi State Police Command has strongly refuted allegations credited to the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kebbi Chapter, suggesting that the state has become ungovernable or inaccessible to law enforcement and judicial authorities.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, described the claim as false, misleading, and grossly irresponsible, urging the public to disregard it completely.
According to the statement, “At no time or under any circumstance has any part of Kebbi State become ungovernable or inaccessible to security or judicial institutions.”
The Command clarified that the recent abduction of Barrister Isiaku Danjuma, a legal practitioner based in Kebbi but an indigene of Ibeto, occurred in Niger State, not within Kebbi’s jurisdiction.
CSP Abubakar explained that the victim had travelled from Niger to Abuja and only joined the Kebbi State Government’s bus arranged for attendees of the investiture ceremony of Barrister Hudu Lawal, SAN. On his return journey, he reportedly alighted at Kontagora and proceeded to Ibeto, where the unfortunate incident occurred.
“It is therefore misguided and counterproductive for any professional association to issue far-reaching statements without first engaging or verifying facts from the Police or relevant security agencies,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, reassured residents that Kebbi remains safe and secure, and encouraged law-abiding citizens to go about their normal activities without fear.
He further appealed to the public to provide credible intelligence that could assist in ongoing efforts to combat crime and apprehend offenders.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public peace, and ensuring that criminals are brought to justice wherever they operate.
It also called for constructive engagement and collaboration with professional bodies, community leaders, and stakeholders in the collective fight against crime, while urging the abductors of Barrister Isiaku Danjuma to release him immediately, unconditionally, and unharmed.
