Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO has revealed the cause of the current power outage in its franchise area, comprising Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.
In a statement signed by its spokesman, Sani Bala Sani in Kano on Monday, the power outage was due to tripping on the 330kV Ugaji-Makurdi-Jos line from Enugu Transmission Station, which occurred at 04:57 a.m. yesterday, October 21st 2024.
KEDCO explained that the 330kV Ugaji-Makurdi-Jos line has been the alternate source supplying KEDCO via the 33kV Kaduna-Jos Transmission line, as a temporary measure to supply bulk power to the Kaduna and Kano regions following the recent vandalization that damaged Towers T133 and T136 along the 330kV Shiroro-Kaduna lines 1&2 being KEDCO’s main sources of bulk power.
The DISCO therefore apologized to the consumers and requested their patience, adding that “we monitor the situation for prompt restoration by our Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) counterparts.”
“Additionally, we urge you to remain vigilant and safeguard electricity infrastructure from vandalism during this time.
“Thank you for your patience and continued support,”
