In a renewed effort to boost the economic viability and revenue generation capacity of Radio Kano, the Kano State Government has pledged to lead Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in patronizing the state-owned media organization to strengthen its competitiveness and operational efficiency.
The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made this known during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the Jogana Sub-Station of Radio Kano AM.
The visit formed part of his ongoing familiarization tour of agencies under his Ministry.
Comrade Waiya expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by Radio Kano since the inception of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Notable improvements include the upgrade of the station’s transmission capacity from 5 kilowatts to 20 kilowatts, as well as the replacement and modernization of key equipment at both the main and sub-stations.
The Commissioner stressed the need for a renewed commitment to enhancing the station’s revenue base to position it to compete favorably with its peers. He emphasized that Radio Kano deserves increased patronage from MDAs, given its extensive reach that transcends the borders of Nigeria.
Comrade Waiya further pledged to address the operational challenges facing the station to ensure it continues to fulfill the vision of its founding fathers, who established it nearly eighty years ago.
On staff welfare, the Commissioner assured employees of Radio Kano of his unwavering commitment to ensuring that their welfare remains a top priority. He noted that the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration is firmly focused on timely salary payments, capacity-building trainings, and the prompt settlement of retirees’ gratuities and monthly pensions.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Radio Kano, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu Rano, who conducted the Commissioner around the Jogana facility, commended the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for its timely interventions, which have significantly enhanced the station’s operational efficiency.
