The Federal Ministry of Education, under the dynamic leadership of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is set to launch a transformative initiative known as the Diaspora Bridge—a visionary programme aimed at fostering collaboration between Nigerian tertiary institutions and professionals of Nigerian origin in the diaspora.

Diaspora Bridge is an acronym for Diaspora Research, Innovation, Development, and Global Engagement.

In a recent virtual engagement, the Honourable Minister convened key stakeholders including Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, Deans of Faculties, and Directors of ICTs across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.

The session served as a precursor to the formal launch of the Diaspora Bridge platform, scheduled for late May 2025.

“The Diaspora Bridge is a game-changer,” said Dr. Alausa during the meeting. “It offers a golden opportunity for the Nigerian education sector to engage, collaborate, and innovate with our distinguished compatriots abroad. This is not just a programme—it is a movement towards global integration and academic excellence.”

The initiative has been widely applauded as one of the most impactful under the current administration. It marks a bold step towards elevating the standards of education in Nigeria, bridging gaps in research and development, and building sustainable global networks.

The Ministry of Education invites all stakeholders and Nigerians at home and abroad to support and engage with this groundbreaking platform.

With the launch on the horizon, the Diaspora Bridge is poised to redefine the narrative of education in Nigeria
