It is with deep sadness that the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, mourns the passing of Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sunusi, who departed this life on April 1, 2025, at the ripe age of 92.

The Minister extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, the Kano Emirate Council, and the people of Kano State.
He described Alhaji Abbas Sunusi as a pillar of wisdom, a champion of peace, and a shining example of leadership.
Throughout his illustrious life, Alhaji Abbas Sunusi played a significant role in shaping the history of Kano State.

Alhaji Abbas Sunusi’s remarkable life was marked by numerous achievements.
He was a member of the Kano Emirate Council since the late 1950s and held various traditional titles, including Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida, district head of Ungogo, Dan Iyan Kano, Wambai of Kano, and finally, Galadiman Kano.
Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who had been a member of the Kano Emirate Council since the late 50s, was first appointed as Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida and the district head of Ungogo by his father, Emir Sanusi I, in 1959.
He became Dan Iyan Kano in 1962 during the reign of Emir Muhammadu Inuwa, and later during the reign of Emir Ado Bayero, became the Wambai of Kano.
He was elevated to the most senior title of Galadiman Kano during the first reign of his nephew, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The Minister prays that Almighty Allah grants the late Galadiman Kano eternal rest and admits him into Aljannah Firdaus.
He also prays for comfort and strength for the family and loved ones of the deceased.
