Parents of the abducted students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, have continued to express shock and anguish following Friday’s attack that left 25 schoolgirls abducted and two staff members killed.
One of the parents, Malam Tukur Sani, said he received the devastating news while preparing to go to his farm in the early hours of the morning.
He rushed to the school, where he has remained, hoping for positive news about the rescue of the students.
“I have been here since morning. We are still waiting and praying that our children will be rescued,” he said, noting the presence of security personnel including soldiers, police officers, and vigilante groups at the scene.
Another parent, Malam Lawali Altine, whose daughter Hauwau Lawal, a JSS 2 student, is among the abductees, appealed to the federal and state governments particularly Governor Nasir Idris to intensify efforts toward rescuing the girls.
Similarly, Hajiya Rani Maga, whose daughter was also taken, said she has been unable to eat since the incident, due to shock and continuous tears.
She pleaded for swift intervention from authorities at all levels.
The wife of the school’s security master, Amina Hassan, narrated the horrifying moment when armed bandits stormed their home and shot her husband dead in her presence. The gatekeeper, Malam Ali Shehu, was also killed during the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, three of the abducted students managed to escape and have since returned to the school.
The atmosphere remains tense as Governor Nasir Idris is currently holding a closed-door meeting with security chiefs, community leaders, and the school management in the principal’s office.
