The Jigawa State House of Assembly has cautioned against illegal tree felling, stressing the need to protect the environment across the state
Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, made the warning at the official launching of 100,000 tree planting campaign tagged “Restore the Land, Unluck the opportunities”, organised by Partnership for Development Action (PADAC), held in Dutse.

He said that the cutting of trees has a direct negative impact on the environment, economic effects, social effects and global effects.
The Speaker explained that due to the importance attached towards environmental protection, the State House of Assembly has sponsored an environmental bill that will ensure environmental restoration and protection.
According to him, the law has passed first and second reading and is now before the state House committee on environment and will soon be passed into law”.

State Commissioner of Environment and Acreasal State Project Coordinator Mal. Yahaya Muhammad said so far, over 1,625 hectares of degraded land have been restored in the last two years.
Executive Director PODAC Aisha Aminu Muhammad commended Jigawa state Government for its commitment towards mitigating the effects of climate change.
She said the exercise targeted three streets in Dutse metropolitan for the tree planting campaign exercise.
She advised residents to imbibe the culture of planting trees to ensure environmental restoration.
