The Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board has officially launched the 34th Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Gashua, the headquarters of Bade Local Government Area.
The week-long event is being held at two lecture theaters of Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua, with separate categories for male and female participants.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Arabic and Islamic Education Board, Mallam Umar Abubakar, highlighted that the Yobe State government’s hosting of the competition demonstrates the administration’s commitment under Governor Mai Mala Buni to advancing both Western and Islamic education in the state.
Represented by the State Tsangaya Coordinator, Mallam Usman Lawan, Abubakar emphasized that the competition aims not only to promote the pursuit of knowledge but also to instill good behavior in the youth and foster social cohesion among the people.
A total of 136 participants, comprising both male and female contestants from the 17 local government areas of the state, have registered for the competition.
The event is set to conclude on October 19, 2024.
