A devastating fire outbreak has claimed the lives of 17 almajiri students in a Quranic school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when a fire swept through the students’ quarters, trapping many of them inside.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started from a nearby house and quickly spread to the school, engulfing the students’ living area.
Despite efforts to rescue them, 17 students lost their lives, while 12 others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
One of the eyewitnesses, Yahaya Mahi, described the scene as chaotic, saying that the fire started from a nearby house and quickly spread to the school, blocking the exit routes.

“The fire started from a nearby house and spread to the school, blocking the entrance. Initially, people were able to escape, but the fire flared up again, trapping the students inside,” Mahi said.
A parent who lost a child in the fire outbreak expressed shock and grief, saying that they were still trying to come to terms with the loss.

“We leave everything to God. When we heard the news, we were devastated. We are still trying to console ourselves,” the parent said.
The cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown, and authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and living conditions of almajiri students in Quranic schools across northern Nigeria.
