The Kano State Government (KNSG) and Geoscan Technologies Nigeria, in collaboration with its global headquarters in Berlin, Germany, have taken significant steps toward enhancing the efficient management of solid mineral resources in the state.

A high-level interactive roundtable meeting was held in Kaduna on Tuesday to discuss data-driven strategies for creating a more investment-friendly environment in Kano’s mining sector.

Kano State Solid Minerals Ministry Achieves Significant Milestones

According to Adamu Ibrahim Dabo,Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Kano State, the discussions were focused on fine-tuning modalities for sustainable mineral resource management.

He noted that this initiative aligns with the state’s broader economic strategy to attract foreign direct investment and maximize Kano’s vast mineral potential.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from Geoscan Technologies Nigeria and its global team, led by Founder Dr. Ulrich Eichhorn and Co-founder Oliver Haeggberg. Senior geologists and directors also participated.

The Kano State delegation was led by the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu, alongside Permanent Secretary Engineer Mansur Yakubu and other top officials from the ministry.

Commissioner Safiyanu reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that will not only attract global investors but also create employment opportunities—both of which are key priorities of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

 

Geoscan Technologies’ CEO, Oliver Haeggberg, highlighted that their visit was aimed at providing advanced technological solutions for scanning and analyzing mineral licenses.

This would offer detailed insights into the volume and economic value of targeted minerals, enhancing transparency and investor confidence.

Adding to this, Alhaji Nasiru Wada, a Director at Geoscan Technologies Nigeria and the Magaji Garin Kano, emphasized the necessity of collaboration in advancing the state’s mining sector.

He outlined the vision for the Kano State Ministry of Solid Minerals as a regulatory body and investment facilitator while overseeing the activities of Kano Mining Development Company Limited.

To accelerate progress, Alhaji Wada proposed the establishment of a technical committee to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and Geoscan Technologies, ensuring a structured framework for collaboration.

Renowned geologist and consultant Professor Ibrahim Garba advised the ministry to update its technical expertise to meet global standards. He stressed the importance of regulatory clarity, investor-friendly policies, and best practices to position Kano as a competitive player in Nigeria’s mining industry.

This meeting follows an earlier engagement in December 2024, where the Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources hosted Mr. Demiete Amachree, the Managing Director of Geoscan Technologies Nigeria. During that session, he presented a roadmap for unlocking opportunities in Kano’s mineral sector through strategic partnerships.

The latest deliberations mark another milestone in Kano’s efforts to leverage cutting-edge technology for efficient mineral exploration and economic growth.
