The United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF has called on the Kano State Government and all stakeholders to urgently implement the Child Protection Law 2023, as part of efforts to safeguard the rights and well-being of children across the state.
Speaking at the Children’s Day 2025 celebration held at the Coronation Hall, Kano State Government House, UNICEF Kano Chief of Office, Mr. Rahma Rihood Mohammad Farah, emphasized the importance of turning policy into action to truly protect children.

“Indeed, every child is a treasure full of potential,” Farah stated. “As we celebrate today, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to creating an environment where every child is safe, protected, educated, and empowered to thrive.”
UNICEF lauded the Kano State Government for the passage of the Child Protection Law in 2023, describing it as a landmark step toward ensuring children’s rights. However, Farah stressed that the real value of the law lies in its implementation.
“We therefore urge all stakeholders to move with urgency in operationalizing the law—including establishing the necessary structures and allocating resources that will turn policy into action,” he said.

Farah noted that by prioritizing implementation, the state will not only protect children from harm but also unlock their immense potential to contribute to the future of Kano and Nigeria.
He concluded by reaffirming UNICEF’s commitment to supporting the state in its efforts to build a brighter and safer future for every child.

The event, themed “Indeed, Every Child is a Treasure Full of Potential,” served as a reminder of the shared responsibility to protect and empower every child. UNICEF’s message resonated with key stakeholders, who expressed readiness to collaborate and ensure the effective implementation of child protection measures.
As Kano State marks Children’s Day 2025, all eyes are now on the state government and its partners to take decisive action that will transform the lives of the youngest citizens.
