Kano, Nigeria — In a strategic move to promote peace and security, the Kano State Government KNSG has officially launched Operation Safe Corridor, an ambitious initiative aimed at rehabilitating and reintegrating repentant thugs into society.
Speaking at the event, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and internal affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, highlighted that the program reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s determination to redirect the energies of young people away from political violence and crime.
“This is the third day we are interacting with the youth from the eight metropolitan local governments,” Waiya said.
Kano Launches Project Safe Corridor to Address Political Thuggery
“There is a reason for creation, and the primary one is to worship the Almighty. In that process, we are expected to forbid what is wrong and promote what is right.”
Comrade Waiya emphasized that the initiative is rooted in moral and spiritual values.
He condemned political actors who exploit youths for violence, warning:
“The Almighty Allah prohibits killing and harming others. No one should ask you to hurt another person. Politicians who supply you with drugs or weapons are not your friends they are your enemies.”
He stressed that the government’s priority is to offer support and create positive opportunities for the youth:
“The Governor of Kano State is willing to help the youth; that is why we have gathered you here today to inform you about our new strategy. However, we will not tolerate lawlessness.”
“We want you to stop thuggery. If they give you money, take it but do not subscribe to their ideas of violence.”

Safer Schools: Perm Sec Reaffirms Commitment to Security
“We will not allow any politician pretending to support the youth to use them to create chaos in the state. Thuggery is an embarrassment to Kano, and we urge you to desist from it.”
Also addressing the gathering, respected Islamic scholar Dauda Lokon Makera encouraged the youths to embrace forgiveness, peace, and spiritual guidance.
In a powerful testimony, Alhaji Nana, one of the rehabilitated youths, urged his peers:
“Do not allow any politician to use you to cause chaos. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf wants a peaceful Kano, and so does Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. They have never instructed anyone to carry arms against their opponents.”
The event ended with loud ovations as many of the youths publicly declared their decision to renounce thuggery and commit to peaceful living, vowing to contribute to a safer and more harmonious Kano.
