The Kano State Government,KNSG in collaboration with the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), has commenced a five-day workshop aimed at developing a Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) for 2026–2028 to enhance the quality of education in the state.
Declaring the workshop open in Kaduna, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, emphasized the significance of the event in redefining the sector’s priorities.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, the Commissioner stated that the MTSS would help the state articulate its key educational goals, address pressing challenges, and implement actionable interventions.
“This workshop is crucial. It equips us with knowledge on how to access and prudently utilize budgeted funds, especially as we aim to revitalize the education sector,” Makoda said.
He added that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has introduced several developmental projects in education, making it essential to adopt a strategic framework for better outcomes.
Dr. Makoda noted that the 2025 education budget represents 31.5% of the total state budget, reinforcing the need for strategic planning and due process in implementation to ensure impactful delivery.

Also speaking, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Education Reforms, Haladu Mohammed, described the workshop as foundational to Kano’s education transformation roadmap.
“It’s about understanding where we are, where we want to be, and how we can achieve our goals. This plan will guide education delivery in Kano for the next three years,” he said.
In goodwill messages, Dr. Auwalu Halilu (Chairman, Kano State Accountability Forum on Education – K-SAFE), Tijjani Halladu Baraya (Chairman, School-Based Management Committee – SBMC), and representatives from the Ministry of Planning and Budget, Ministry of Finance, and Plan International stressed the importance of collective action in building an inclusive and resilient education system.
