History was made in Kano as members of the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP), Kano Branch, elected Dr. Aysha Idris Adhama as Chairperson, making her the first female to hold the position in Northern Nigeria.
Dr. Adhama, a Deputy Director at the Department of Physiotherapy, Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu Pediatrics Hospital, succeeds Professor Bashir Kaka, whose tenure was described as highly impactful.
She will lead the new Executive Committee for the 2025–2027 term.
The elections took place during the Branch’s Annual General Meeting held at the Association’s Secretariat, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, and produced a team of professionals tasked with advancing the society’s goals.
The newly elected executive members are:

Vice Chairman: Dr. Muhammad Aliyu Abba
Secretary General: Dr. Huzaifa Shehu Imam
Assistant Secretary General: Dr. Hafsat Hussein
Treasurer: Dr. Farida Abubakar
Financial Secretary: Dr. Usman Abubakar
Auditor: Dr. Dauda Muhammad Dan Arewa
Publicity Secretary: Dr. Bashir Bello Gaya
Welfare Secretary: Dr. Hauwa Abubakar
The committee is expected to sustain the legacy of its predecessors by promoting professional growth, accountability, and community service within the physiotherapy profession in Kano State.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Adhama expressed gratitude and humility, acknowledging the confidence reposed in her by colleagues.
She pledged to work with the team to strengthen the society and uphold its mission.
