The Bauchi State Zero Dose Learning Hub ZDLH Community of Practice (CoP), with support from the African Health Budget Network (AHBN), has carried out a joint legislative oversight visit to selected primary health care facilities in Ganjuwa Local Government Area to assess the state of immunization services and infrastructure.

The oversight team was led by the Chairmen of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committees on Health, Hon. Lawal Dauda, Appropriation, Hon. Mohammed Wanzam, and Nutrition, Hon. Ahmed Maikudi, alongside Hon. Garba Adamu, representing Ganjuwa West. They were joined by the CoP Chairman, Mr. Jinjiri Garba, and the AHBN Bauchi State Focal Person, Dr. Hassan Shuaibu Musa.

They were received by the Director of Primary Health Care in Ganjuwa LGA, Mal. Ibrahim Adamu, facility managers, and other local health officials. The visit featured inspections of solar-powered deep freezers for cold chain storage, routine immunization record harmonization, financial management and sustainability under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), sanitation, and the 2025 work plans of the facilities.

The team observed notable improvements in infrastructure and equipment, including the installation of additional cold chain facilities—partly achieved through CoP advocacy efforts. Service delivery was also reported to have improved across primary health care components, despite ongoing renovations at the Kafin Liman facility.

However, the lawmakers and CoP members identified areas requiring urgent attention, such as enhanced border synchronization of immunization activities with neighbouring Jigawa and Gombe States, provision of motorcycles and logistics for local immunization supervisors and community resource groups, and the formal absorption of trained volunteers who have been supporting service delivery.

Hon. Lawal Dauda assured that the State Assembly would engage relevant authorities to address the challenges identified.

In his remarks, Dr. Hassan Shuaibu Musa of AHBN commended the Bauchi State House of Assembly for its support in allocating and ensuring the release of the ₦872 million earmarked for the state’s 2025 immunization budget.

He conveyed the appreciation of AHBN’s National Coordinator, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, and other stakeholders of the Zero Dose Learning Hub for the legislature’s commitment to immunization financing and accountability.
