The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State has appealed to the Ministry of Information and Culture for support and cooperation in ensuring the success of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Sarkin Pawa Dambo, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the state’s Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi.
Dambo explained that INEC has already commenced continuous voter registration, beginning with the online process. He said the exercise covers individuals who lost or defaced their voter cards, relocated, or transferred from one state to another, as their information is already in the system.
He further emphasized that persons who have just turned 18 years of age are required to appear physically at INEC offices in all 21 local government areas of Kebbi State for registration.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner expressed confidence in the Ministry of Information, describing Commissioner Yakubu Ahmed as a seasoned journalist and professional in information management, capable of mobilizing and enlightening citizens across the state for a successful outcome.
In his response, Commissioner Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi assured INEC of the ministry’s commitment to the exercise, noting that it is a collective responsibility in the interest of democracy.
He added that Governor Nasir Idris has consistently directed ministries to contribute actively to the success of voter registration.
He revealed that the Ministry of Information, in collaboration with the Ministry of Special Duties, is working to establish a technical committee to synergize with INEC and ensure wide participation in the exercise.
