The Kano state 2024 OBR4 polio immunization was flagged off at Ungogo local government area marking the commencement of the campaign across the 44 LGAs.
The campaign targets 3.6 million children against polio poliomyelitis.
Speaking at the flag off at Ungoggo LGA, the Health Manager UNICEF Kano field office, Dr. Sereke Seyoum Deres, explained that, vaccination awareness is crucial in protecting children and future generations from the polio threat.
He emphasized on the need to spread the knowledge and encourage others to participate in vaccination drive.
Dr Sereke highlighted that polio as a preventable disease has impacted countless lives, saying that every shot counts and every effort matters.
“But with your help we can make a difference “
The health manager pointed out that UNICEF is part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which is working to eliminate polio worldwide.
“UNICEF has engaged the services of Volunteers Community Mobilisers for polio eradication across priority local government areas in Kano State”
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, emphasized the importance of stakeholders working together to ensure the campaign’s success.
The commissioner hinted that Ungoggo LGA has the highest number of zero-dose children and many victims of Diptheria and cholera.
He appealed to parents to take advantage of the opportunity to vaccinate their eligible children, stressing that this collective effort will help achieve the target objective of polio eradication.
