The media has been urged to be creative, innovative and inquisitive and seek for knowledge to build themselves according to global standards.
The executive director of Citizens for Development and Education CDE Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, made the call during a one-day training for media reporters in Kano state to enhance participants professionalism and general knowledge on governance in Nigeria.

According to him, the world has turned into a global village hence the need for the media to research, investigate and expand their horizons through networking, knowledge and skills.
He highlighted that, by adding value to their work, the media can exhibit professionalism in their reportage by capturing and disseminating it to the public.
Ambassador Waiya explained that the workshop was organized to set an agenda of exposing reporters to skills needed to bridge the gap regarding knowledge-based reporting.

In his presentation titled, Promoting Ethics and Professionalism in Journalism Through Knowledge-based Reportage, a lecturer with the Department of Mass Communication Bayero University Kano Dr. Bala A. Muhammad pointed out that, Knowledge of the law and ethics of the practice are essential in media work.

He stressed that, The practice of journalism should be guided by professionalism which is acquired through the diligent use of knowledge Knowledge of history, geography, and philosophy.
“These are essential in the successful practice of knowledge-based media work we, as journalists, must always strive for more knowledge which will lead to excellence”
Bala posited that, to eradicate ignorance based on reporting , a journalist should be fair, objective, bold and independent and well as the knowledge of media law ethics.
