The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has taken note of the growing concerns expressed by stakeholders within the media and broadcasting industry regarding the recent directive by the Niger State Government to suspend the operations of Badegi FM, a radio station based in Minna.
Reports indicate that the directive was issued by the Executive Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, during an expanded APC Caucus Meeting held in Minna on August 1, 2025, which was also attended by the Minister of Information and National Orientation. The Governor reportedly cited allegations of unethical broadcasting practices and incitement against the government as the basis for the suspension.
While the Ministry acknowledges the concerns raised, it emphasizes that, under Nigerian law, the power to suspend or revoke broadcasting licenses resides solely with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). The Ministry therefore welcomes the decision of the Niger State Government to escalate the matter to the NBC through formal channels for appropriate investigation and resolution.
The Minister urges all parties to remain calm and allow due process to take its course. The NBC has the statutory mandate and mechanisms to handle such issues in a fair, professional, and impartial manner.
