In a landmark effort to improve healthcare access for Kano’s underprivileged populations, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially launched the Abba Care Initiative, enrolling over 300,000 vulnerable residents in a free health insurance program.
According to Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity at Kano Government House, the scheme targets marginalized groups, including pregnant women, senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, inmates in correctional facilities, and those living with sickle cell anemia.

The initiative is fully funded and managed by the Kano State Contributory Health Management Agency (KCHMA) to provide free, quality healthcare services across designated facilities in the state.
Governor Yusuf described the program as a cornerstone of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing that access to healthcare is a fundamental right for all citizens.
He pledged to continue implementing policies that prioritize the welfare and well-being of the state’s most vulnerable populations.
