The Kano State Police Command says it has achieved significant milestones in its ongoing fight against crime following the launch of a new security initiative, Operation Kukan Kura.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, noting that the operation, introduced in July 2025, has drastically reduced criminal activities across the state by combining community engagement with tactical policing.

According to him, the initiative is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to deepen community-oriented policing and deploy both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in combating crime.
“This operation positions communities as active stakeholders in policing efforts, leveraging their roles as the eyes and ears of the Police within their neighborhoods. The result has been a remarkable decline in thuggery-related crimes, popularly known as Fadan Daba, across the state,” CP Bakori stated.
107 Suspects Arrested in August Alone
Highlighting the achievements of the operation, CP Bakori revealed that in August 2025 alone, operatives arrested 107 suspects linked to various crimes, including:
8 armed robbery suspects
8 suspected kidnappers
3 human trafficking suspects
14 suspected drug dealers
2 suspected motor vehicle thieves
6 motorcycle thieves
5 other theft suspects
61 suspected thugs (Yan-Daba)
He also confirmed the successful rescue of a victim of human trafficking during the period.
Recovered Weapons and Stolen Items
The Command displayed a wide range of recovered exhibits, underscoring the scale of its success. Items seized include:
1 AK-47 rifle, 2 fabricated guns, 11 live ammunition
7 motor vehicles and 8 motorcycles
7 cows

From the launch of Operation Kukan Kura on July 1, 2025, to date, the Command said it had recovered a total of 473 dangerous weapons and large caches of illicit drugs.
Commendation to Officers
CP Bakori praised officers of the Command for their dedication and resilience, stressing that their sacrifices have been pivotal to the operational breakthroughs recorded so far.
