The Kano State Government has expressed strong opposition to the proposed Tax Reform Bill currently before the National Assembly.
Governor Abba Yusuf described the proposal as “ill-timed, lopsided, and inimical to the unity of the country” during the new year festivity in Kano.

Speaking through his deputy, Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Governor Yusuf emphasized that Nigerians, particularly in the North, are struggling with hyperinflation and insecurity.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize addressing extreme poverty and hunger in the region.
The Governor lauded the resilience of Kano residents amidst economic challenges, stating that the tax reform bill is not the solution to the current economic challenges.

Instead, he highlighted his administration’s achievements in healthcare, education, road construction, and foreign scholarship initiatives.
Governor Yusuf also celebrated the reinstatement of Emir Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II in 2024, describing it as a victory for the people’s will.
The Governor encouraged Kano residents to remain united and steadfast, stating, “Let 2025 be a year of shared prosperity and progress. Together, we will build a stronger Kano.”
