The Kano State Government has called on all 44 Local Government Areas to actively participate in the 2025 National Agricultural Show and use the platform to showcase the state’s agricultural capacity to a national and global audience.
The call was made by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, during the opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the annual show held in Karu, Nasarawa State.
The Commissioner, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government Matters, Alhaji Bashir Abubakar Yaro, said it was time for renewed commitment to agriculture as a major employer of labour and a key driver of economic growth.
He noted that the Kano State Government has strengthened community-level value chains across all LGAs, with deliberate efforts toward empowering women and youth. According to him, agricultural development remains central to community prosperity, stating that “when the farmer thrives, the community prospers.”
Alhaji Othman described the National Agricultural Show as a crucial platform for stakeholders to exhibit innovations, share knowledge, and attract investment into the sector. He expressed optimism that the event would further promote agro-industrialisation and support ongoing efforts to diversify the state’s economy.
Also speaking, Alhaji Yaro highlighted the government’s support for farmers through the provision of inputs, credit facilities, and capacity-building programmes. He urged representatives from Kano to take advantage of the show to network, acquire new skills, and explore business opportunities that could benefit their local communities.
He added that the state remains committed to creating a conducive environment for agricultural growth and commended the organisers for facilitating national dialogue on key issues affecting the industry.
The four-day event brings together farmers, policymakers, researchers, academics, and industry players to exchange ideas and advance agricultural innovation. States and LGAs that display outstanding yields or innovations will receive awards at the end of the programme.
The Commissioner urged stakeholders from Kano to work collaboratively to ensure the state harnesses the full opportunities presented by the show and unlocks the agricultural potential across the 44 LGAs.
