The Kano State Government says it will collaborate with the Faculty of Communication, Bayero University, Kano, to offer a diploma programme for social media users involved in promoting the policies of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya,stated this at the end of a two-day workshop held in Kano.
Comrade Waiya said the training aims to improve how participants use social media to share information related to government activities.
“The proposed diploma course will enhance participants’ capacity to effectively use social media platforms in disseminating information on government policies and programmes,”
He urged the participants to act responsibly and adhere to ethical standards online.
“We expect you to preserve the dignity of the government and yourselves. You must conduct your activities with respect and discipline, as you represent the image of this administration,” he said.
Waiya also encouraged them to consider earning income through digital platforms.
“There are vast business opportunities on social media. I encourage you to leverage them to empower yourselves and become financially independent,”
In his closing remark, the Chairman of the Twitter Advocates for Abba Kabir Yusuf Project Promotion explained that the workshop has broadened their skills and deepened their understanding of how to strategically promote the achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The workshop featured sessions from various speakers. Malam Auwal Sa’id Mu’azu, a media and communication consultant, presented a paper titled “Media Convergence and Artificial Intelligence – A Strength or a Threat to Media Practice.” Aisha Bala Rabi’u of Kano State Polytechnic spoke on “Understanding and Combating Misinformation, Fake News, and Fact-Checking Techniques,” while Aisar Salihu Fagge lectured on “Content Creation and Impactful Social Media Messaging.” Umar Sulaiman Usman demonstrated content creation techniques.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in collaboration with Nexa Digital Services.
