The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced a planned maintenance shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), beginning May 24, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi O. Soneye, the shutdown is part of a scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment aimed at ensuring the refinery operates at optimal efficiency.

NNPC Ltd said it is working in collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the maintenance process is carried out in a transparent and efficient manner.
“The maintenance and assessment activities will be conducted in line with global best practices,” the statement read. “NNPC Ltd remains committed to delivering sustainable energy security for Nigeria.”
The company assured the public that regular updates on the progress of the maintenance will be provided through its official website, media platforms, and public announcements.
