The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has announced the appointment of Professor Aisha Maikudi as the institution’s 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor.

This historic appointment marks a significant milestone in the university’s 38-year history, as Professor Maikudi becomes the first female Vice-Chancellor.
The appointment was made during the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council in Abuja, with Professor Maikudi’s tenure set to begin on January 1, 2025, for a non-renewable five-year period.

A distinguished scholar and professor of International Law, Professor Maikudi boasts an impressive academic background.
Born on January 31, 1983, in Katsina State, she holds an LLB from the University of Reading, an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja.

Throughout her academic journey, Professor Maikudi has achieved numerous notable milestones.
She was the first female Head of Department in 2013, the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018, and the inaugural Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.
Professor Maikudi has also introduced the ‘United Nations Law’ course at the University of Abuja and has represented her university and country at numerous international conferences.
