The Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, has pledged the emirate’s full support to the Maryam Idris Umar College of Education, as part of efforts to strengthen education in Rano and across Kano State.
The Emir gave the assurance when he received the management, staff, and students of the college at his palace. The delegation was led by the institution’s proprietor, Alhaji Sani Jogana, and the provost, Hajiya Bilkisu Abdullahi Turaki.
In a statement issued by the Head of Public Relations of the college, Ado Salisu, the Emir described education as the backbone of development, particularly at a time the state is prioritising human capital growth.
Ambassador Umaru expressed readiness to support the institution in achieving its objectives and commended the management for its commitment to expanding educational opportunities.
He urged the leadership of the college to sustain their efforts towards improving the standard of education in the state and beyond.
Earlier, proprietor Alhaji Sani Jogana highlighted the history of the institution, noting that it was established to fill existing gaps in the educational system. He said the college aims to complement the efforts of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in revitalising education.
Jogana also appealed to the Emirate Council for support towards establishing a campus of the college in Rano to enhance access and contribute to the emirate’s development agenda.
He thanked the Emir for granting the audience despite his tight schedule and advised the students to remain good ambassadors of the institution.
In her remarks, the provost, Hajiya Bilkisu Abdullahi Turaki, outlined the programmes and activities of the college across its Darmanawa, Hadejia Road, and Jogana campuses.
Meanwhile, the visiting delegation took the opportunity to tour historical sites within the Rano Emirate alongside students from the Geography, History, and Social Studies departments.
