The Tsamiya dry port in Kebbi State has opened a clearing office in Kano state to enhance business activities in Northern Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Kano trade office the Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, represented by the Zone B comptroller, ACG Sambo Dangaladima, noted the occasion marks a crucial step towards the re-opening of the Segbana-Tsamiya border in Kebbi State.

According to him, in May 2024, a high-level delegation from Nigeria met with its counterparts from the Benin Republic and discussed important issues regarding the opening of the border to fast track the operationalization of the border post, focusing on logistics, security measures, and economic impact, among others.

“The establishment of this trade office in Kano, a major commercial hub underscores the importance of Kano as a key centre of commerce and highlights the importance of streamlining business processes in the region, including the establishment of an export terminal to support local industries as well as aligning with the Federal Government’s broader goals of addressing food security and strengthening economic ties within Nigeria and across its borders.

While reiterating NCS’s commitment in implementing and enforcing the government policies and directives to achieving economic growth and development, he urged the business communities to ensure due tax are paid and also sincerity in their business.

While stressing on a harmonious working relationship between customs of both countries for a smooth business transaction, he however urged both the president of Benin and Nigeria to reduce taxes burden on good in order to reduce the effect on the masses for a social economic growth.
