The Kano State Government has reiterated its dedication to providing adequate and nutritious food to boarding schools across the state.
This assurance was made by the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, during an interactive meeting with principals of boarding schools and food contractors.
Kano Gov’t Takes Action Against Excessive Fees in Private Schools
Dr. Makoda highlighted the government’s significant progress in its school feeding program, including prompt payment to food contractors for the 39 boarding schools.
Notably, the government has increased the food price rate by 82% to enhance the quality and quantity of food provided to students .
The meeting aimed to review the 2023/2024 school feeding program and gather advice on improving the system for the 2024/2025 third-term feeding program.
Kano Government Vows to Pay School Food Contractors Promptly
Dr. Makoda urged contractors to fulfill their contractual obligations, assuring them of the government’s commitment to processing their requests promptly.
The contractors, represented by Alhaji Uba Maga Yakasai, appreciated the government’s efforts and pledged to supply high-quality food to the schools.
They assured that, with the government’s financial support, students would have access to sufficient and nutritious food throughout the term.
The principals of the boarding schools expressed their gratitude and support for the state government’s decision to allow schools to close for the second term vacation before the commencement of the Ramadan fasting.
This commitment to providing quality food in boarding schools aligns with the importance of nutrition for students’ physical and mental well-being, as well as their academic performance .
