In a strategic move to ensure Kano State’s voice is effectively represented in the ongoing constitutional amendment process led by the National Assembly, the Kano State Government has inaugurated a 26-member high-powered committee.
The inauguration was performed on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim, during a ceremony held at the Cabinet Office.

He stated that the committee comprises carefully selected professionals, academics, legal experts, and traditional leaders with notable records of national service and leadership.
The committee is chaired by renowned constitutional lawyer, Professor Auwalu Yadudu, with Professor Hafiz Abubakar, MFR, DSc, serving as Co-Chairman.

Kano Assembly Approves Consultant Engagement for Excess Crude Fund Recovery
The secretariat will be led by Alhaji Umar Muhammad Jalo, Permanent Secretary, REPA Directorate. He will be supported by Abdulkadir Shehu, Ibrahim Bawa, and Aminu Ibrahim Bichi, who will serve as co-secretaries.
Mandate of the Committee
The SSG charged the committee with reviewing proposed constitutional amendments and articulating Kano’s position on key issues such as:
Local government autonomy
Creation of state police
Role of traditional rulers
Resource control
Establishment of a national LG electoral commission
He emphasized the importance of public engagement and stakeholder input in shaping a position paper that aligns with the interests and aspirations of the people of Kano State.
Alhaji Farouq commended the committee’s proactive approach to media engagement and public sensitization and expressed confidence in their capacity to deliver a robust contribution to the constitutional review process.
In his acceptance remarks delivered by Professor Habu Muhammad, Chairman Professor Auwalu Yadudu expressed appreciation for the trust bestowed upon them and pledged a thorough, transparent, and inclusive process. He urged the public and key institutions to support the committee through prayers and meaningful contributions.
