The Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy hosted a 16-man delegation from the Algerian War College led by General Baouche Amirouche who are on Study Tour to Nigeria.

General Amirouche emphasized that the visit was aimed at fostering military cooperation, promoting peaceful coexistence, and enhancing the preservation and protection of cultural relations between Nigeria and Algeria.

He noted that the Algerian War College selected Nigeria as a destination due to its rich cultural diversity and heritage.

Representing the Honourable Minister, Barrister Hannatu Musawa, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad welcomed the delegation and highlighted the significance of the Nigeria-Algeria relationship as a growing partnership with substantial mutual benefits.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that a new phase of cooperation is emerging, particularly in aviation, as Algeria’s national airline is set to commence direct flights to Nigeria.

This development, he noted, is expected to boost tourism, facilitate economic ties, and strengthen diplomatic relations.

Dr. Yawale, speaking on behalf of the Ministry, noted that both the Nigerian Embassy in Algeria and the Algerian Embassy in Abuja have consistently promoted mutual cultural exchange and cooperation between the two nations.

He further expressed appreciation to the Algerian delegation for including the Ministry in their study tour, reaffirming FMACT&CE’s commitment to the protection, preservation, and promotion of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The highlight of the event was a paper presentation by Dr. Ben Anamah, Head of the Department of Cultural Industries and Heritage of the Ministry.

His presentation, titled “The Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict: The Need for Cooperation,” referenced the 1954 Hague Convention as a pivotal international treaty aimed at safeguarding cultural property—including monuments, artworks, and archaeological sites—during both war and peacetime.
