The Borno State Government has been commended for its commitment to improving healthcare, following the approval of a ₦234,675,594.98 contribution to the Primary Health Care Memorandum of Understanding (PHC-MoU) Basket Fund for 2025.
Speaking at the Zero Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) Peer Learning and Exchange Retreat on Immunization Accountability and Advocacy, held from June 18 to 22 in Abuja.
The Coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN),Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, commended the Borno State Government, the Ministry of Health, and the Borno State Primary Health Care Development Board (BoSPHCDB) for prioritizing this funding.

Dr. Magashi emphasized that Borno’s financial contribution would help strengthen primary healthcare delivery and close immunization gaps, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
He urged civil society organizations and members of the Borno State Community of Practice to collaborate closely with the government in tracking these funds and ensuring they are properly utilized.

“This kind of partnership is vital for achieving our goal of reaching every child with lifesaving vaccines,” he added.
The retreat also highlighted the need for sustained accountability, effective advocacy, and continuous cooperation across all states involved to drive progress and protect children against vaccine-preventable diseases.
The retreat, attended by Community of Practice (CoP) members from Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Borno States, focused on strategies to reduce the number of zero-dose children and improve access to immunization.
