The Kano State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, stated that the proposed budget for 2025, presented by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, focuses on human capital and economic development.
The Commissioner made this announcement while addressing the media about the budget breakdown, which took place at the Ministry of Planning and Budget in Kano.
He revealed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has proposed a budget of N549.16 billion naira for the 2025 fiscal year, aptly titled the “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development.”
Alhaji Shanono explained that the budget aims to consolidate the policies put in place by the current administration, with a specific focus on enhancing…ducation, healthcare, infrastructure development, and economic growth.
Breakdown of the Budget
Capital Expenditure: N312.63 billion (57% of the total budget),while Recurrent Expenditure stands at N236.53 billion (43% of the total budget).
The Commissioner maintained that the Recurrent Revenue expected stands at N449.09 billion (18% increase from 2024),while Capital Receipts is expected to be N76.07 billion (82% increase from 2024).
Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono further explained that Sectoral Allocation of funds reads as follows
Education N168.35 billion (31% of the capital expenditure),Health N90.60 billion (16.50% of the capital expenditure),Infrastructure Development N70.68 billion (12.80% of the capital expenditure).
Others are Agriculture N21.04 billion (3.80% of the capital expenditure),Manufacturing, Commerce, Industry and Tourism N3.89 billion (1.22% of the capital expenditure).
Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono noted that the budget prioritizes the payment of salaries and allowances to civil servants and political office holders, with N150.99 billion allocated for this purpose. Additionally, N85.53 billion is earmarked for overhead and recurrent costs, while N9.96 billion is allocated for debt service.
He added that Governor Yusuf’s administration aims to maintain its commitment to using available resources to pursue major programs and projects across the state .
