The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Forensic Laboratory Bill 2025, aiming to establish a forensic laboratory that will conduct examinations on various forms of evidence to aid investigations.
The bill was passed after lawmakers reviewed its 30 clauses in the committee of the whole house and completed its third reading, led by the House Clerk, Bashir Diso, during plenary session presided over by Speaker Hon. Ismail Falgore.

According to the Assembly, once established, the forensic laboratory will conduct examinations on documents, materials, equipment, impressions, and other related evidence to aid investigations.
Speaking to journalists after the plenary, Majority Leader Hon. Lawan Husseini explained that the laboratory would be instrumental in verifying documentary evidence, particularly in cases involving school certificates, signatures, and wills.
“The forensic expert would also help tackle the genuineness of documents, especially in conflicts arising from issuing a land document (such as a C of O) to more than one person,” he stated.

He further noted, “There are other instances where a court may seek to know the truth of a document, and it can refer it to the forensic expert to give their advice.”
Hon. Husseini also emphasized that penalties, including imprisonment, fines, or both, will apply to individuals found guilty of forgery based on forensic findings.
He added that the laboratory will be headed by a Director General and will operate under the State Attorney General. Its membership will include representatives from the Ministries of Land and Physical Planning, Education, Science, and Technology, among others.
