The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Kano Educational Resource Department (KERD) Conference Hall, where Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, the State Commissioner of Education, represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Kano Prioritizes Education, Encourage Community Involvement

According to Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Education, the committee’s terms of reference include evaluating the alignment of existing policies with the state’s cultural and religious values, assessing the feasibility of their implementation, and recommending measures to strengthen the education system.

The four key policies under review are the Kano State Girls’ Education Policy, Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Policy, Non-State School Policy, and Teacher Development Policy.

Dr. Makoda emphasized the importance of this committee, urging its members to leverage their expertise in presenting actionable recommendations within the three-week timeframe.

The committee is chaired by Malam Abdullahi Muhammad Dutse and includes notable scholars, government officials, and representatives from civil society and the Emirate Council.

In his response, Malam Abdullahi Muhammad Dutse assured the Commissioner of the committee’s dedication to delivering a comprehensive report that would address the sector’s pressing issues.

“The government has carefully selected members from diverse backgrounds to ensure a holistic review, and we are committed to providing a meaningful roadmap for educational development in Kano State,” he affirmed.
