The Kano state government KNSG has been urged to increase budgetary allocation and timely release of funds to the health sector to reduce maternal and child mortality.

The chairperson knowledge management sub committee Kano state led accountability mechanism KanSLAM Hajiya Nafisa Murtala made the indication during an advocacy visit to the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency DMCSA.

According to her, increasing budgetary allocation and ensuring timely release of funds would go a long way in boosting quality healthcare delivery.

Nafisa Murtala said they were at the DG’s office to seek his support, about decision-making around women’s and children’s health.

She explained that KanSLAM is supporting the Kano government on human development, specifically on health issues, through advocating for the improvement of women’s and children’s health in the state.

The director general of DMCSA Pharmacist Ghali Sule highlighted that the mandate, and success recorded by the agency under his leadership, are similar to those achieved by KanSLAM.

He emphasized that the agency and the forum are working toward a common goal of improving the health sector for a healthy society.

Pharmacist Ghali hinted that the federal government has recognized drug management agencies (DMAs) owned by the state governments as the most appropriate facilities to get the best health commodities across the country.

‘As a result of the revitalization of the importance of DMAs, the federal government is now working hard to make sure all states have established the said agencies, and ensure they are operated according to the laid down rules and regulations, revealing that 22 states so far have established their own”

He pointed out that the state Ministry of Health and its MDAs under Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf are working tirelessly to achieve the desired objectives.

The DG commended the Kano state governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for allocating over 16 percent of its total budget to the health sector.

“ which is above the stipulated amount required by the Abuja Declaration of 15 per cent of the total budget “
