The Kano state fire service says two individuals lost their lives while two others were rescued in separate water-related incidents at Kumbotso local government area.

In the first incident, which occurred around 9:36 a.m. near Ring Road opposite Dorayi Babba, two men drowned while pursuing a third man into a ditch.

The Fire Service received a distress call from a citizen, Garba Sani, reporting the emergency.

Firefighters from the service headquarters responded promptly to the scene, where they found two men Saifullahi Muhammad (27) and Halifa Abdullahi (29) unconscious. Both were residents of Gwammaja Quarters.

According to preliminary reports, the victims had followed a man believed to be around 30 years old from Kofar Ruwa Market in an attempt to recover money owed to them.

The man reportedly jumped into a puddle-filled ditch, and the victims followed him, only to become trapped. Despite rescue efforts, the men were later pronounced dead at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

Their bodies were handed over to Inspector Halifa Muhammad of the Kuntau Police Division for further investigation.

Earlier the same day, around 6:01 a.m., the Fire Service responded to another emergency in Danmaliki Village, near Chalawa Filling Station.

Two well-drainers became trapped inside a well after entering without sufficient oxygen supply.

The Fire Service, alerted by one of its own officers, SFS Usman Aminu, dispatched a team to the location.

The trapped individuals were successfully rescued alive and were later confirmed to be in good health.

They were handed over to the Ward Head of Danmaliki, Alhaji Ali Alkasim, for further care and documentation.

Speaking on the incidents, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, urged members of the public to exercise caution around water bodies and confined spaces.

“These incidents highlights the importance of safety awareness and timely emergency reporting. We urge the public to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary risks,”

The Kano State Fire Service continues to respond swiftly to emergencies across the state, reinforcing its commitment to saving lives and protecting property.
