The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has hosted a technical workshop and town hall meeting in Kano as part of its ongoing nationwide engagement across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The event aimed to strengthen collaboration between the federal and state governments in improving the ease of doing business, bringing together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
The day engagement was divided into two sessions morning and afternoon and featured vibrant panel discussions and stakeholder consultations focused on driving subnational economic reforms.
In attendance were high-ranking officials from Kano’s ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
In his welcome address,the director general Kano state investment promotion council KAN INVEST Alhaji Muhammad Nasiru Ibrahim reaffirmed Kano State Government’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s reforms.
“Kano, being the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, is always open to reforms that will boost business operations and economic prosperity for its citizens,”
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for championing initiatives such as PEBEC and urged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities presented.
Also speaking PEBEC team leader, Dr. Bello Adewale, explained that the council, through the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER), is offering technical assistance to state governments in improving their ease-of-doing-business rankings.
“This year’s Subnational Ease of Doing Business report will spotlight the top 10 most business-friendly states in Nigeria,”
Dr. Bello revealed that the town hall engagement will be held annually between May and June.
A technical session followed, featuring a panel discussion chaired by representatives from various MDAs. Panelists included:
1. Commissioner for Investment, Commerce, and Industry
2. Commissioner for Land and Physical Development
3. Director General, Kano Investment Promotion Agency
4. Chairman, Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS)
Each representative outlined policy measures and initiatives their agencies are implementing to enhance Kano’s business environment.
Call to Action for Entrepreneurs
In his closing remarks, Alhaji Tijjani Aliyu Danzabuwa, acting MD of the Kano State Tourism Board, praised the Federal Government for organizing the town hall.
He urged the business community in Kano to take full advantage of the initiative, noting that such platforms are essential for sustainable business growth and job creation.
