The Task Team Leader of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project and Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank, Dr. Joy Iganya Agene says Taraba State has successfully progressed to stage two of the project.
This achievement demonstrates the state government’s effective leadership, paving the way for additional funding opportunities.
ACReSAL Project Team Visits Kano to Assess Intervention Progress
Dr. Agene made this announcement during the opening session of the 5-day joint World Bank and Federal Government of Nigeria Technical Support Mission on Taraba State ACReSAL in Jalingo. She noted that the project is on track, and communities in Taraba State will feel the impact of ACReSAL.
“The project will enable communities to be more resilient to climate change shocks, improve their livelihoods, and have better job opportunities,” Dr. Agene said. “We appreciate the state government, especially His Excellency, for his passion for ACReSAL.
Dr. Agene emphasized the importance of sustainability, urging critical stakeholders to facilitate the development of an integrated landscapes management policy.
This policy will be passed into law by the state assembly, ensuring the project’s long-term impact.
Abudulhamid Umar, National Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, noted that the team is in Taraba to review performances and ensure alignment with the project’s development goals.
He emphasized that ACReSAL is a celebrated project focused on reaching out to the downtrodden.

Hon. Aishat A. Barde, Honorable Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change in Taraba State, welcomed the team and recognized the progress made by the project.
She acknowledged that there is still more work to be done and sought further technical guidance to ensure the project delivers its full potential.
“On behalf of His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, I assure the World Bank and FGN that Taraba State remains committed to deepening collaboration and scaling up implementation efforts to achieve even greater results,” Hon. Barde said.
With over 12,000 beneficiaries already impacted by the project and over 900 hectares of degraded landscapes restored, the ACReSAL team is poised to drive further transformation in Taraba State.
